Call for Nominations – the Region is You!

ABC Wisconsin regional office continues to work toward strengthening regional office ministry and synergy among the ABC Wisconsin constituency. We are now open to receive nominations!

We are looking for visionary, passionate, and available people interested in growing in Christian discipleship while serving in regional leadership, with varying terms beginning after this year's Annual Gathering. Please begin to consider who among your congregation can positively contribute to our collective life as a region. Among those we seek:

    • Vice President (male layperson) who also serves on the Executive Committee/ Regional Personnel Committee and as Chair of the Annual Gathering Program Committee
    • Treasurer - Officer who chairs the Investment Committee and serves on the Executive Committee/Regional Personnel Committee - must have an aptitude to understanding financial reporting, and a commitment to active and growing ministry and mission with consideration to wise financial practices
    • Members of the Commissions (Camping, Ministry, Finance, and Congregational Missions) and At-Large Board of Managers Member - people who affirm the region's mission statement, can catch the vision of ABC Wisconsin ministry and positively contribute to conversations and initiatives to advance regional ministry.
    • Governance Re-Structure Task Force - persons who can speak to well-functioning non-profit Boards, can understand structure as a support for ministry and mission, or has some familiarity with organizational documents (i.e. by-laws).
    • ABC/WI representations to ministry partner boards - persons who are committed to the partnership we have with various ABC-related ministries (various opportunities and terms of service)

In addition to the position description in our By-laws, see below for general time commitments for each position. Questions can be directed to the Regional Executive Minister.

President

  • work out a communications plan with Regional Executive Minister to stay informed about and provide guidance on region matters
  • preside over 2 Board meetings : Saturday, November 4, 2017 in Camp Tamarack and Saturday, May 5, 2018 in May in the Greater Milwaukee area
  • preside over Executive Committee meetings (typically at least two a year; it has been a Monday afternoon in April and one in August – though this is not set in stone)
  • attend and preside at Annual Gathering (typically the 2nd weekend in October).
  • 2017-2018 consult with Governance Task Force
  • other time commitments as needed to carry out this leadership role of the region

Treasurer

  • 3 commission on finance meetings a year (has been, though not set in stone, Monday morning at Region Office in April, August, and October)
  • 3 investment meetings a year (has been, though not set in stone, Monday morning at Region Office in April, August, and November)
  • 2 executive committee meetings a year (has been, though not set in stone, Monday afternoons in April and August). We have tried to schedule these on the same day as commission on finance meetings at the region office
  • expected at 2 Board meetings: Saturday, November 4, 2017 in Camp Tamarack and Saturday, May 5, 2018 in May in the Greater Milwaukee area
  • prepare and give financial report at the Annual Gathering (typically the 2nd weekend in October
  • other time commitments as needed to carry out this leadership role of the region
  • be available to Regional Executive Minister for consultation on financial matters via phone/email
  • other time commitments as needed to carry out this leadership role of the region

Qualifications

  • Good eye for reviewing/analyzing financial reports and budgets
  • Understands the world of investments and can think strategically about this from a regional perspective
  • Serves as moderator of the investment committee
  • Is an authorized agent of the region for investment accounts and back-up check signor for all other regional accounts
  • As an officer is a member of the Executive Committee and the Board of Managers (see description in bylaws)

 

Region Governance Task Committee

Function: work together starting in November 2018 to develop a more lean and effective region governance structure for presentation at the 2018 Annual Gathering and potential implementation thereafter.

  • attend Board meeting on Saturday, November 4 at Camp Tamarack
  • additional task force meetings: frequency, time, location, and platforms to be determined by task force members
  • time needed for perform assignments in between meetings

Qualifications:

  • knowledge/experience in any of the following areas: non-profit governance and legal considerations, corporate documents, organizational systems
  • out-of-the-box thinking, particularly as it relates to organizing to support ministry and mission
  • knowledge and interest in regional ministries

Vice President

  • attend 2 Board meetings: Saturday, November 4, 2017 in Camp Tamarack and Saturday, May 5, 2018 in May in the Greater Milwaukee area
  • attend Executive Committee meetings (typically at least two a year; it has been a Monday afternoon in April and one in August at Region Office– though this is not set in stone)
  • chair Annual Gathering Program Committee meetings (usually meet 2-3 times from January through September with some additional conference calls and time needed to tend to the assignments)
  • attend and co-preside at Annual Gathering (typically the 2nd weekend in October)
  • other time commitments as needed to carry out this leadership role of the region

 

Board of Managers – At Large

  • attend 2 Board meetings : Saturday, November 4, 2017 in Camp Tamarack and Saturday, May 5, 2018 in May in the Greater Milwaukee area
  • other time commitments as needed to carry out this leadership role of the region

Commission Members

Finance:

  • 3 commission meetings a year (has been, though not set in stone, Monday morning at Region Office in April, August, and October)
  • If also serving on investment committee, additional 3 investment meetings a year, two of the three usually on the same day as finance commission; third is a stand-alone meeting during 4th quarter
  • Phone or video conferencing can be made available when necessary

Ministry: 

  • Pre-scheduled quarterly meetings (based on availability of members)
  • May need to be available for special-called meetings
  • May need to respond to online discussions/decision in between meetings
  • Phone or video conferencing can be made available when necessary

Camping:

  • One face to face meeting, typically in January in Camp Tamarack
  • Several phone or video conferencing as needed
  • Time given to carry out the goals and activities of the commission

Congregational Missions: 

  • Two-three meetings throughout the year, time and location may vary
  • Time given to carry out the goals and activities of the commission

Board Members of Partner Ministries

Our nominating committee also recommends names for Board members who will represent ABC/WI on the Board of the Milwaukee Christian Center and Project Focal Point. Final decisions are made by these organizations.
