White Cross
White Cross- Shirley Klug, Regional Coordinator
White Cross is probably the ministry
of American Baptist Women that has the involvement of more churches,
more people and reaches into more parts of the world than any other
single ministry. As the women's mission societies have decreased in
numbers over the years, we now encourage churches to involve everyone
in their projects. Children are especially excited about helping others.
White Cross supports missionaries,
both National and International Ministries. Requests come to Valley
Forge from the mission fields and are distributed to the regional
White Cross coordinator who in turn sends to the association coordinator
who send them on to the local churches. Our Wisconsin Region, this
year, will be supporting the Milwaukee
Christian Center and ministries in Bolivia, India and Philippines.
There is an opportunity to purchase clothing, school supplies, Christmas
gifts, etc., as well as making roller bandages and other medical supplies
for our overseas mission hospitals.
If your church does not do White
Cross and would like to participate, check with your association as
to who is the coordinator for the area you are in. There is always
a need for "Gifts of the Heart" which are baby, school,
health and cleanup kits. These are distributed by Church
World Service to areas where disasters such as hurricanes
and tsunamis have occurred. Directions are available for assembling
and sending the kits.
