Christian Education
CEWeb
Welcome
to the Christian Education page of the American Baptist Churches of
Wisconsin Website!
This online
resource will serve as a forum to share ideas, get information and
the like. On this first of the CEWeb pages I post articles, then ask
a couple of questions to drive discussion (see
below). Please send responses to me, as directed on this page,
and then check back to view your and others' comments.
Please share the Web address for
this site with Christian Education workers in your church. I would
also invite you to offer
suggestions of things which would make the site useful to
you.
EQUIPPED TO TEACH
September 2005
All teachers need some refreshment
and/or training along the way. New teachers may need some basic training,
but experienced teachers need at least a new idea or two. Summer or
early Fall is a good time to do that, so that we are prepared to begin
our church's teaching ministry in September with freshness and enthusiasm.
For that reason, your Region Commission
on Congregational Ministry has decided to hold another
Festival of Learning
This time we are holding it in September,
hoping it will help your church be prepared for the Fall. Progressive
Baptist Church in Milwaukee has agreed to host the event on September
24, 2005. You will find a poster,
which includes a tentative schedule, and a registration
form on this website. Please feel free to copy and use these
documents in your church. We hope that many of you will plan to attend
and to bring other teachers and leaders from your church with you.
There are many other ways that you
can do the ongoing work of training teachers and leaders. Let me suggest
a few. I am sure you can think of many others!
-
Regional workshops such as the
Festival of Learning
-
Training Time: The Workshop Collection
for Church Leader Development by American Baptist Churches USA.
I have the set of these and would be happy to make them available
to you. These workshops cover a wide variety of topics including
teaching various age groups, working with boards and committees,
dealing with conflict, foundational concerns and many others.
The complete listing can be found at http://www.abc-usa.org (look
under National Ministries)
-
Team Teaching (a good place to
begin - put an inexperienced teacher with an experienced one)
-
Observation (identify classes
in your program that are going well and see if the teacher would
be comfortable with visitors (1 or 2 at a time)
-
Visits to classes in other churches
-
Workshops done in your own church
on topics requested by teachers
-
Library resources on teacher training
(There are many books, videos, computer programs, etc. available.)
-
Getting together with neighboring
churches to conduct workshops
-
Regular meetings of teachers and
leaders in your own church to discuss issues and build a good
team
If there are specific ways I can
help with any of these ideas, please let me know (Christian.Education@abcofwi.org).
I will be happy to take the ideas to the Commission.
Here
are the questions. Share your ideas!
- What mission instructing Christian Education activities
have you had at your church that worked well for you? (Send a digital
picture if you have one!)
- What good books and resources have you discovered
relative to developing mission in Christian Education?
I have heard from some of you regarding
previous questions. To see these responses, click Above. If you have
not yet given YOUR input then I hope to hear from you soon.
