Mission Statement: The purpose of this congregation is to give visible form to the faith and fellowship to which God has called His people. We acknowledge ourselves to be a local manifestation of the Universal Church, through which Jesus Christ continues to minister to the world by His Holy Spirit. We shall seek to fulfill this calling through corporate worship services through a program of nurture by which our members may be built up in their faith and love, through proclamation of the Gospel by word and deed, and through ministering to human need in the name of Christ.
The Community Baptist Church began in 1841 after a group of settlers from the East Coast came to the area and formed the community now known as Honey Creek. They worshiped in homes and schools until 1849, when they built their first church. Then a new brick church and a community hall replaced a simple frame building in 1906.
On June 13, 1920, tragedy struck when the church and hall were destroyed by fire. However, the faith and determination of the church family and their friends were greater than the tragedy they experienced. In 1922, they completed and dedicated a new brick sanctuary and community hall in the same location.
In 1986, a third building, the Memorial Pavilion, was built and dedicated. Permanent outdoor recreation facilities were included in the addition. Three years later the church decided to undertake a major building program. The plan included redecorating the sanctuary, tuck pointing the church building, renovating the choir rooms and building a new church office, restrooms and rear entrance to the church. The renovation and new church building was dedicated November 29, 1989.
More than 50 pastors and hundreds of people have continued the ministry to which the settlers of 1841 dedicated their church.
On Sunday, August 26, 2001, Community Baptist Church held a special service at 9:30 a.m. and picnic after service to celebrate this event.
