In This Issue:
"LOSING IT"
Now there is a phrase that
can clearly have multiple meanings.
There may be times when you
feel in the midst of the busyness of life that you are "losing
it". It's time for a vacation or at least a break from
the day to day stress and strain.
"Losing it" may be
used when those car keys or the TV remote just don't seem to
be where you thought you put them.
For the elderly it may mean
losing their independence, their home, their driving privileges-a
difficult time in life.
For me and my family it has
been having a different meaning-a positive meaning. Having watched
the TV series "The Biggest Loser", (a program about
individuals and couples who worked hard to lose weight), we
resolved during the holiday season at the end of 2005 to lose
weight.
Five members of our family
(one who was really not overweight) joined together in this
effort. It was even named and a weblog was created. "Reichter
Biggest Loser". We did not go on some designer diet or
begin a program of vigorous exercise. We just watched carefully
what we ate.
The result of this discipline
has been a family weight loss (as of 7/06 of 106.8 lbs).
Disciplines in our spiritual
life are vital to our spiritual health. Too often we wait and
exercise them when we are stressed or in chaos (weighed down
by life's issues). Let's all resolve to be spiritually disciplined
on a more consistent basis.
