In This Issue:
RISK ALERT!
Perhaps you receive Church
Mutual Insurance Company information in the mail as I do here
at the region office. We have our various insurance policies
with the company and I have been told they insure a majority
of our churches. It is a good company. That, however, is not
what I want to talk about.
The current subject addressed
on the "Risk Alert" page of the recent mailing was
"Candle Fires 2001-2005. They raised the growing concern
for the costly losses incurred by fires started because of the
use of candles in a house of worship. Their conclusion "only
use candles when tradition demands it".
Well, for me Christmas Eve
just wouldn't be the same with electric "candles"
and I do believe they add a great touch to any worship service.
Their point is well taken, however, and they go on to provide
some guidelines to minimize the dangers.
This still, however, is not
what I want to share in this space.
As the holiday season moves
along I want to issue a risk alert-don't get caught in the trappings
of the secularization of this holy time.
Check your emotional and spiritual
"settings". Are you running on frantic? Dashing through
the snow to the mall to get all the gifts you just have to have?
Cooking up a frenzy for the family? Exhausted before the Holy
Day even gets here?
SLOW DOWN, PAUSE, PRAY, STOP
DOING SOMETHING, REDUCE THE STRESS, DON'T SPEND SO MUCH MONEY.
As the old hymn says "Take
time to be holy, speak oft with the Lord." It will do wonders
for your emotional and spiritual condition.
If you don't you will be AT
RISK for many things-most significantly finding yourself in
a desert having moved away from God, having missed Jesus birthday
party and wondering about the meaning of life.
We all know better
..let's
DO BETTER this Holy Day season
With my heartiest wishes for
a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
