Fall Seminary Classes Open To Lifelong Learners

Lifelong Learners, persons who have a bachelors degree, may now participate in selected classes being offered this fall. (Students are not required to complete class assignments but are expected to read the text and participate in the classroom experience.) Hebrew Bible I (Old Testament) will be taught by Timothy Ashley (Sept. 7-8, 14-15, 28-29, Oct. 5-6 and 20). Christian Heritage I (Church History) will be taught by Adam Bond (Nov. 9-10, 16-17, 30-Dec. 1, 7-8, 22). Classes meet Fri. 6:30pm-9:00pm and Sat. 8:30am to 1:30pm at the region office. The cost is $300/course. Lifelong Learner application forms are available from the region office. They must be completed and returned by August 1.

In Remembrance

Dr. E. L. ThomasOf the life of Dr. E. L. Thomas , president of the Wisconsin General Baptist State Convention, National Baptist Convention, U.S.A., Inc. who died April 30, 2007. Dr. Thomas was pastor of Victory Missionary Baptist Church-Milwaukee and Executive Director of the Sunday School Publishing Board. The position of president is similar to our position of Executive Minister. Dr. Thomas was 53 at the time of his death. We remember his wife, Emma Jean Paden, and family in this time. Services were held in Milwaukee and Pine Bluff, Arkansas.

News About Churches and People

The Western Association met with five congregations represented: Eau Claire-First (host), La Crosse-First, Wisconsin Rapids-First, Tomah-Open Door and Hudson-First. The association gathered items for Camp Tamarack, the Milwaukee Christian Center, Church World Service and White Cross at their meeting.

Members and friends of Underwood - Wauwatosa plan a mission trip to El Salvador this summer. They will participate in the building of a Peace Park.

The Southeastern Association met with three congregations represented: Delavan -First (host), Honey Creek-Community, and Darien-Community. Each congregation shared about mission and outreach projects in which they were involved.

Thirty persons from nine Wisconsin Baptist congregations attended the Central Section Team Black Christian Education Conference in Columbus, OH in late April. Rolen Womack, Milwaukee-Progressive served on the planning team and was a leader at the event as was Carmen Porco, Housing Ministries of American Baptists in Wisconsin.

The Madison Association met with five congregations represented: Richland Center-First (host), Viola-Ash Ridge, Madison-First, Wisconsin Dells-Indian, and Wyocena-Community. A presentation was made about the ministry of Judy Sutterlin who serves in China.

Congratulations to John & Lorrie Walton on the birth of their daughter Grace born May 10th.

Jim Marshall, a youth member of Brookfield-Immanuel and a Boy Scout, is completing his Eagle Scout project at Camp Tamarack. With the help of his troop, a trail will be established to Young's Lake as well as a canoe rack. This will be helpful for groups staying at Basile Retreat Center. Later with the help of his family, a dock will be built and placed in this area.

Steve Carlson has been called as pastor of West Allis-Tabernacle.

The 24th Annual Milwaukee Association Choirfest was held May 6th at West Allis-First. Musicians from six congregations participated: Milwaukee- Calvary, Milwaukee-Metropolitan, Whitefish Bay-Roundy, Wauwatosa-Underwood, West Allis-First, and Waukesha-First. Mary Schecher directed the mass choir and Wilanna Kalkhof accompanied.

The 25th Annual Choirfest will be held May 4, 2008 at Wauwatosa-Underwood. Musicians from all area congregations are invited to participate and everyone is invited to attend the 7 pm concert.
