ABC USA Biennial/Centennial Celebration


  • More than 70 attended from Wisconsin representing 17 congregations and ministries.

  • Trinette McCray and Mark Weisser were members of the plenary praise team

  • The Waukesha-First praise band provided the music for the ABC Centennial Birthday party

  • Nikki Clinger, Madison-First, and Nicole Wolf, La Crosse-First, were Wisconsin youth delegates

  • Carmen Porco was one of the speakers at the pre-biennial event sponsored by National Ministries on children in poverty.

  • Sue Glenz, region president, and Beverly Davison, former ABCUSA president, were two of the Wisconsin representatives in the Centennial Worship Service processional.

  • Peter Wolf, current general board member and president of the ABC Board of National Ministries participated in the processional.

  • The biennial theme "Arise and Shine" was the focus of the celebration as Baptists came together in unity and harmony.

  • The 2009 Biennial will be held in Pasadena, California June 26-28.

Proposed By-Law Change

The Board of Managers is recommending to the delegates at the October 12-13, 2007 the following by-law change. Article V, Section 2 Duties and Personnel of Commissions. Combine the Commission on Congregational Ministries and Commission on Outreach to form the Commission on Congregational Mission:

a. Personnel of this commission shall consist of six members. The staff member related to this work shall be an ex officio member.

b. Promotes Christian education, campus ministry, evangelism, church growth, mission service in the state, nation and world, social justice and stewardship education.

Adoption of this change will result in a reduction of one member on the Board of Managers and Executive Committee.

Fall Seminary Classes Open To Lifelong Learners

People with a bachelors degree may now participate as Lifelong Learners. They are not required to complete assignments other than read the text and participate in class.

Series One: Sept. 7-8, 14-15, 28-29, Oct. 5-6 and 20

  • Hebrew Bible I (Old Testament) taught by Timothy Ashley
  • Homiletics taught by Eleanor Cardenas

Series Two: Nov. 9-10, 16-17, 30-Dec. 1, 7-8, 22

  • Christian Heritage I (Church History) taught by Adam Bond
  • Christian Witness taught by Carmen Porco and Trinette McCray

Classes meet Fri. 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm and Sat. 8:30 am to 1:30 pm at the region office. The cost is $300/course. Pastors in congregations averaging 100 or fewer in worship qualify for Blumer Continuing Education Scholarships. Application forms, available at the region office, must be completed by August 1st.

Congratulations

To Jamie Washam, pastor Wauwatosa -Underwood, on her marriage to N.J. Unaka in El Salvador at the conclusion of a recent June mission work trip. ABC Missionary Magda Aguirre officiated at the ceremony. The couple met in Boston eight years ago and share a passion for mission Mr. Unaka originally from Nigeria has relocated to Milwaukee where he will continue his career as an architect.

Don Frank has been called as pastor of Eau Claire-First.

Bruce Bramlett is concluding his service as interim pastor at Berkeley-First.

David Brynelson has been called as a chaplain with Hospice Care of Madison/Janesville.
