SEMINARY EXTENSION DOUBLES IN REGISTRATIONS

Central Baptist Theological Seminary

In just the second full academic year the Central Baptist Theological Seminary-Milwaukee Center has more than doubled in course registrations. More students are taking a full-time load and new students are entering. On August 25 a Fall Orientation and Convocation was held at Community Church of Milwaukee. Dean Allen from Central was a special guest and Adam Bond was the preacher. Timothy Ashley, Site Director, coordinated the event and Judy King was the host pastor-she is also a seminary student. Three key ministry partners with the center were recognized: First Baptist-La Crosse, Community Baptist of Greater Milwaukee and Housing Ministries of American Baptists in Wisconsin. Central Seminary was also recognized for their partnership with ABC/Wisconsin in establishing the center.

Peggy Wolf Recognized at Camp Tamarack

Peggy Wolf at her Recognition Event at Camp TamarackThe camp reunion and day of celebration of Peggy Wolf's ministry in region camping was held in early August. Over 175 persons from many congregations gathered for fun, fellowship, and a program. This was an opportunity for many folks to see the improvements that have been made to Camp Tamarack, renew friendships from over the years and say a special "thank you for a job well done" to Peggy. Attendees included Art Basile, former Director of Camping, and Harriet Cornelius, wife of the late Bill Cornelius who had camping in his job portfolio when he served on the region staff. Many other former staff members and volunteers were in attendance as well as campers. Every camp age level and every association of the region was represented.

Camp TamarackSharon Engh, moderator of the Commission on Camping, and other members of the commission planned and led the program that included laughter and tears. She presented Peggy with a scrapbook with items from every camp during the 2006 season. Sharon also announced the action of the commission and the region board of managers to name the cabin used by Peggy for 13 years as "The Wolf Den". Arlo Reichter, executive minister, announced a fund in honor of Peggy that will become a part of the camp endowment-he indicated that more than $3,000 had been received in just two weeks. (Gifts may be made through the end of the year.) A further time of recognition will be included at the region annual meeting Oct. 13-14 at Green Lake.
