Adam Bond to Present Lecture in Atlanta

Adam BondThe American Baptist Historical Society - Click here to learn moreThe American Baptist Historical Society will host a lecture by Adam Bond, region staff associate on Friday, September 28th at the Cecil B. May campus of Mercer University, in Atlanta, GA. The lecture follows a 6 pm reception and both are open to the public. The location is the future home of the historical society where the society will be holding its annual board meeting. The lecture topic is "Everybody is God's somebody: The Public Ministries of Samuel DeWitt Proctor and Martin Luther King, Jr." Adam is completing his Ph. D. at Marquette University in the field of church history where his dissertation is on the life and ministry of Samuel DeWitt Proctor.

Proposed By-Law Change

The Board of Managers is recommending to the delegates at the October 12-13, 2007 the following by-law change. Article V, Section 2 Duties and Personnel of Commissions. Combine the Commission on Congregational Ministries and Commission on Outreach to form the Commission on Congregational Mission:

a. Personnel of this commission shall consist of six members. The staff member related to this work shall be an ex officio member.

b. Promotes Christian education, campus ministry, evangelism, church growth, mission service in the state, nation and world, social justice and stewardship education.

Adoption of this change will result in a reduction of one member on the Board of Managers and Executive Committee.

Seminary Classes Open To Lifelong Learners

People with a bachelors degree may now participate as Lifelong Learners. They are not required to complete assignments other than read the text and participate in class.

Series One: Sept. 7-8, 14-15, 28-29, Oct. 5-6 and 20

  • Hebrew Bible I (Old Testament) taught by Timothy Ashley
  • Homiletics taught by Eleanor Cardenas

Series Two: Nov. 9-10, 16-17, 30-Dec. 1, 7-8, 22

  • Christian Heritage I (Church History) taught by Adam Bond
  • Christian Witness taught by Carmen Porco and Trinette McCray

Classes meet Fri. 6:30 pm - 9:00 pm and Sat. 8:30 am to 1:30 pm at the region office. The cost is $300/course. Pastors in congregations averaging 100 or fewer in worship qualify for Blumer Continuing Education Scholarships. Application forms are available at the region office.

Seminary Convocation to Include Dedication of New Chapel/Classroom

Central Baptist Theological Seminary6:30pm Friday, September 7
Lower Level of the Region Office

This brief time of worship will be held prior to the first class sessions of the fall semester. All are welcome to attend.

The new chapel/classroom was made possible through financial gifts from the following Milwaukee congregations: Christ the King, Community of Greater Milwaukee, Progressive, Calvary and West Allis-First. Housing Ministries of American Baptists of Wisconsin has loaned tables and chairs. A brass cross from Milwaukee-Bay View is being used and Charles Graves provided volunteer labor.
