Proposed By-Law Change

The Board of Managers is recommending to the delegates at the October 12-13, 2007 the following by-law change. Article V, Section 2 Duties and Personnel of Commissions. Combine the Commission on Congregational Ministries and Commission on Outreach to form the Commission on Congregational Mission:

a. Personnel of this commission shall consist of six members. The staff member related to this work shall be an ex officio member.

b. Promotes Christian education, campus ministry, evangelism, church growth, mission service in the state, nation and world, social justice and stewardship education.

Adoption of this change will result in a reduction of one member on the Board of Managers and Executive Committee.

Karen Gygax-Rodriquez Receives National Award

Established in 1996 the ABC National Ministers Council Ralph Garfield Schell President's Award for Excellence is presented annually.

For 2007 the award was presented to Karen, pastor at Green Lake-Federated since 1996, her home congregation is Waukesha-First.

News About Churches and People

Lin Sanford Keppert, Madison-Mt. Zion has been called to the Chicago Theological Seminary as Director of Admissions, Recruitment & Financial Aid.

Milwaukee-Community, Judy King pastor, has made a contribution to the chapel/classroom renovation project at the region office in addition to those congregations listed last month.

Judy Sutterin, who serves in China, is transitioning to a position at Jinling Theological Seminary in Nanjing where she will teach General English to Freshman, Biblical & Theological English to Juniors and Seniors.

Karen Sundland has been named as interim pastor at Milwaukee-United. She continues her ministry position at Brookfield-Immanuel as well.

Maxine Ashley, La Crosse-First; Susan Donahue, Madison-First; and Betty Womack, Milwaukee-Progressive will represent the region at a National Ministries Discipleship Partner conference to be held at Franklin College in Indiana during November.

Sandy Cope, Waukesha-First, has been awarded the Faithful Servant Award by the Christian Stewardship Foundation. This award includes a $5,000 grant to the Milwaukee Christian Center in honor of Sandy.

Adam Bond, Milwaukee-Progressive, was awarded the Master of Arts degree in theology by Marquette University in August.

American Baptist students from Wisconsin planning to attend Judson University, Elgin, IL in the Fall of 2008 are encouraged to inquire at the University Financial Aid office regarding the availability of a scholarship grant for a Wisconsin ABC student.

De Lois Taylor, Milwaukee-Metropolitan, and a student at The Milwaukee Centre of Central Seminary has donated a lithograph of the Last Supper for the new Chapel/Classroom in the region office.

Milwaukee-Bay View has given a generous contribution to Camp Tamarack as well as the Milwaukee Christian Center, the four annual ABC offerings, St. Ben's Meal Program, Hope House and the Bay View Community Center.

Congratulations to Milwaukee-United celebrating 70 years, Milwaukee-New Hope celebrating 60 years, and Community Baptist of Greater Milwaukee celebrating 30 years.
