162nd ANNUAL MEETING
American Baptist Churches
of Wisconsin
October 13-14, 2006
"LET JUSTICE ROLL"
Aidsand Wright-Riggins III, Executive
Director of ABC/USA Board of National Ministries inspired
the gathering with his preaching and teaching. He also had
a meaningful dialogue with ministers on Saturday afternoon.
An offering in support of the denomination wide "Children
in Poverty" initiative was received. It raised over $1,300.00.
Over 200 persons from 46 congregations
attended. An offering totaling nearly $1,000.00 was received
for regional ministries.
Jeri Jendi from the Milwaukee Christian
Center shared about the expanding ministry of the center in
a session with the American Baptist Women. The center is the
ABW Ministries of Wisconsin special project this year.
American Baptist Men of Wisconsin heard
the reports of several groups who had traveled to the gulf
region to help in reconstruction efforts. Karl Byleen was
selected to serve as president.
Missional Associations, as needed,
took steps to become functional. Region board and nominating
committee representatives were selected for the year ahead.
A wide range of mission projects was discussed.
Eleanor Cardenas, Milwaukee-Calvary,
region president presided and was honored at a reception hosted
by her home congregation.
Sue Glenz, Eau Claire-First, was elected
region president.
Roy Nabors, Milwaukee-Comm. of Greater,
was elected region vice president.
Paul Higgins, Green Lake-Federated,
was elected region treasurer.
Jon Gage, Milwaukee-Bay View, was
honored for service as region treasurer 1985-2006.
Peggy Wolf, Milwaukee-Bay View, was
honored for her service as region Director of Camping 1993-2006
and region office secretary 1994-2006.
Jimmie Smith of Kids Hope United,
(formerly Children's Baptist Home of Lake Villa, IL) was honored
for more than 30 years of service.
Marva Moore, Milwaukee-Mt. Zion and
moderator of the region nominating committee, presented the
committee report.
Joyce Nichols-Savage, Milwaukee-Community
of Greater, coordinated the registration table.
Special meal gatherings were held
by: Ministers & Spouses, Baptist Peace Fellowship, Associate
Ministers, Mission Advocates and the Coalition for Baptist
Principles.
St. Paul Missionary Baptist-Racine
was welcomed as a re-affiliated congregation. Lawrence
Kirby is celebrating his 25th anniversary as pastor of
the congregation this year.

Former
Region Pastor to Become Executive Director of BIM
Reid Trulson served as pastor of Antigo-First
1976-82 and Wauwatosa-Underwood 1982-1995. During 1983, he
served as region president. Janelle Trulson served for a time
as Christian Education resource person on the region staff.
After leaving Wisconsin, they served the Board of International
Ministries in Europe and more recently in the Valley Forge
office. Prior to becoming a member of the IM staff Reid served
on the ABC/USA General Board that included serving as President
of the Board of International Ministries.

To Joyce Nichols-Savage on the passing
of her husband, Roosevelt Savage Jr. both ministers
of Community Baptist Church of Greater Milwaukee.
To the family of Arthur Hyde who
passed away in October. He served ABC of Wisconsin as Director
of Christian Education and Youth from 1954-1962. During
his tenure, Camp Tamarack was purchased. His wife, Mary,
who survives him, served as camp nurse. The Hyde Unit in
Tamarack Lodge and Meeting Center is named in his honor.
Additional Key Ministry Partners that help
to make The Milwaukee Center of Central Baptist Theological
Seminary a reality are the Ministers and Missionaries
Benefit Board, the Midwest Ministry Development Service and
Salzmann Library at St. Francis Seminary. MMDS and MMBB provide
consultative evaluations through assessments and financial
support of that process and the library allows access to our
students at no cost.
John Davey has accepted an interim
pastor position in Burnt Hills, NY.
Julio Mayorga has concluded his service
as interim pastor at Milwaukee-Evangelica.
Robert Inhoff who has served as president
of American Baptist Homes of the Midwest that included Tudor
Oaks retired as of the end of October.
Community Baptist-Honey Creek recently
held its 96th annual Turkey Dinner serving 606 meals-a new
record.
ABC/WI representatives at a recent Wisconsin
Council of Churches event featuring Walter Brueggeman were:
Roy Nabors, Ken Pennings, Trinette Mc Cray, Rolen Womack,
and Carmen Porco.
Archie Ivy, pastor of Milwaukee-New
Hope, recently received his Doctor of Ministry degree
from Faith Evangelical Lutheran Seminary, Tacoma, WA.
Jay Cronholm has been called as pastor
by Mauston-First.
