Arlo Reichter on Sabbatical Leave
Jan - Mar 2008

This sabbatical has three major emphases: Faith Development in Youth, Retirement Planning for Ministers, and Rest/Renewal. The Faith Development phase will involve research with the youth he served 1971-83 at First Baptist Church of Los Angeles. The retirement planning will involve work with the Midwest Ministry Development Service and MMBB. Results and observations will be shared in various region publications. During his sabbatical, Sam Brink and Sue Kindl will respond to needs that arise.

Highlights from Board of Managers Meeting

  • Agreed to move ahead with Housing Ministries new corporate structure after some adjustments regarding board member qualifications.
  • Approved the 2008 region budget & added a medical benefit for permanent, part-time employees
  • Welcomed Holy Temple Firstborn Missionary Baptist Church of Milwaukee, Lezar Burnside-pastor, and affirmed their desire to affiliate.
  • Heard an update on renovations of John Gray Lodge at Camp Tamarack and authorized additional funds to complete the project.
  • Discussed adding a mission work project prior to the annual meeting and moving the work project/annual meeting to a different location each year beginning in 2009.
  • Enjoyed the hospitality of Pastor Roy Nabors, region president, and Community Baptist Church of Greater Milwaukee that hosted the meeting. The congregation is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year.

Baptists from more than 30 Baptist bodies representing over 20 million Baptists throughout North America will gather in Atlanta, GA Jan 30-Feb 1, 2008 to reaffirm traditional Baptist values including sharing the gospel of Jesus Christ and its implications for public and private morality. News About Churches and People

Congratulations to Reginald and Debbie Ivy, Milwaukee-New Hope, on the birth of their son, Caleb Reginald, October 9th. Reginald serves as an associate minister; his father, Archie Ivy is pastor.

Jeffrey Babcock, Green Bay-First, has enrolled in the Certified Lay Ministry Program offered by the region.

Michelle Doro, Fond du Lac-Memorial, participated on a volunteer medical mission to Cambodia where she worked with ABC Missionary Debbie Coates.

Max Ramsey, Brookfield-Immanuel, Mark Pittman, Tomah-Open Door and Sam Brink attended an ABC National Ministries Consultation on New Church Planting in Kansas City.

Seventy-five youth plus their adult sponsors participated in the Lock-In hosted by Green Bay-First following the Power of One concert recently.

Paul Prowitz has concluded his service as pastor at Oconomowoc-First.
