175th Annual Gathering – Sessions and Leaders

Rev. Karen Sundland, ABC/WI President 2019-2020

Rev. Sundland will "call us to order" at the start of the Friday evening banquet and chair the Saturday morning worshipful work session, where we will elect new Board of Manager members and Nominating Committee members for 2020, tend to other business items and recognitions, and take an important vote on the proposed changes to ABC/WI Articles of Incorporation and Bylaws. Rev. Sandra Kalland, ABC/WI Vice President and Chair of the Annual Gathering Program Committee 2019-2020

As Chair of the Program Committee, Rev. Kalland will be leading us throughout the weekend, and will be assisting the President and Regional Executive Minister as needed to ensure a smooth event for all. Rev. Kalland is a member of Hudson, First.

Rev. Dr. Marie Onwubuariri, ABC/WI Regional Executive Minister

Dr. Onwubuariri will co-emcee the Friday evening Anniversary Banquet, where we will highlight God stories from our churches and partner ministries from the current twenty-five year period -- 1995-2020 -- as submitted through Project '9520....  To learn more about this storytelling project, click HERE. Rev. Dr. Arlo Reichter, Former ABC/WI Executive Minister

Dr. Reichter will co-emcee the Friday evening Anniversary Banquet, where we will highlight God stories from our churches and partner ministries from the current twenty-five year period -- 1995-2020 -- as submitted through Project '9520....  To learn more about this storytelling project, click HERE. Dr. Reichter served ABC/WI well as Executive Minister from 2001-2014. In retirement, he resides in Ripon, WI and is an active member of Green Lake, Federated.

Rev. Carolyn Dugan, ABC/WI Associate Regional Minister - Camping 

Rev. Dugan will lead the Saturday morning lakeside devotion time, sharing from her passion for all of God's creation and contemplative spiritual disciplines. To learn more about Rev. Dugan, click HERE.

Rev. Dr. Zina Jacque, Pastor of Community Church of Barrington, IL & Chaplain to the Board of General Ministries

Rev. Dr. Zina Jacque will be leading a session entitled Pastoral Ministry: “What is that in your hand?” It is an interactive session for pastoral leaders to explore how some biblical examples can speak into our own narratives about growth and provision; we will also use ministry tools to turn our learning into contemporary and relevant praxis.

Minister Byron Johnson, Associate Minister at Progressive Baptist Church in Milwaukee, WI.

Minister Byron Johnson will be leading a Christian Education  session entitled: “Guiding Principles for Engaging Youth in Christian Education. ” For anyone who participates in or has potential to engage in education, spiritual formation, and living out of faith in inter-generational settings.

Byron Johnson is a native of Milwaukee and is an Associate Minister at Progressive Baptist Church. He graduated from American Baptist College in Nashville, TN where he studied Bible and theology.

 

Dr. Laura Miraz, Associate Executive Director for the American Baptist Home Mission Societies (ABHMS) Human Resources Management Services and liaison for ABHMS’ Board of Directors

Dr. Miraz will be leading a session entitled Church Administration: "Effective Leadership Service...what are we really asking people to do?"Using a job description template as a starting point, we will discuss effective ways to develop a volunteer leadership team, whether that be a local church ministry board, leadership council, non-profit board of directors/managers, or other models of volunteer leadership teams. Rev. Rick Barlow, Development Advisor with the American Baptist Foundation; assigned liaison to ABC Wisconsin

Rev. Barlow will be leading a session entitled Financial Resources: “Imagine Your Legacy” In it individuals will learn strategies to increase income and giving to your church or favorite charity. Church leaders will learn ways to transform current vision into a powerful catalyst for creative ministry support.  Wills, Trusts, Life Income Agreements and more will be discussed. Susan Hall, Director of Planned Giving, Rainbow Acres

Susan Hall will be the guest speaker at the Saturday afternoon American Baptist Womens Ministries Session. Susan has lived in the metropolitan Phoenix area since the fall of 1983.  She is an active member and leader in her church, First Institutional Baptist Church of Phoenix, Arizona. She is passionate in her approach and committed to serving family, friends and as she builds relationships in the process of ministering to the ABC family.

A native of Michigan and graduate of Michigan State University, Susan is next to the youngest in a family of seven girls.  She has spent the last twenty-three years serving American Baptist individuals and congregations; first as a Field Representative of the American Baptist Foundation and for the last nine years, as Director of Legacy Giving for Rainbow Acres.

When asked what motivates you?  Her response, “My love for Christ and knowing that all things are possible through Him.”
