God of Wonders!

by Kim Drost, Assistant Minister-Camping: Facilities & Guest Services

“For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities – his eternal power and divine nature – have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made….” Romans 1:20

Why have a camping ministry? Because camping is one way to re-connect with the power, majesty, and glory of the Creator. When you immerse yourself into the details of creation itself, the things God has made, you cannot help but be overcome with awe and wonder. Spending time outside among the trees, plants, sand, sky, lakes and critters means you are reminded that you are extremely small. You are confronted by God’s bigness. And yet, as big as God is, and as small as you are, God knows you by name. Mind blown! God made you and knows you.

At Camp Tamarack we are reminded daily that everything that lives and moves and has its being only does so because God wills it to be so. Even as you watch the fish swim around the campers, you are reminded that you are part of an intricate tapestry of life.

Camp Tamarack is a place for campers and retreaters of all ages and abilities to experience God in creation. It gives us a chance to slow down and really look around – all is not as it seems. If you take the time to stop and look – really look with a microscope – at that grain of sand, for example, you will find that it is a shell for an extremely small mussel. Mind blown! Yes. God made that, too.

The Apostle Paul said that God has made himself known through his creation. There is no better place to be guided in observing this than at Camp Tamarack. Consider coming up for retreat or bringing a group from church…Come and see!
