In 1915-1916, the Ottoman Empire conducted a campaign of deportation and genocide against the Armenian people. Armenians are primarily Christian and have lived alongside Muslim neighbors for centuries. Besides the country of Armenia, Armenians also have an enclave within Azerbaijan in the area of Artsakh. In the last month, 120,000 ethnic Armenians have been forcibly removed from Artsakh, one of only two areas continuously occupied by Armenians since 600 B.C.E. Following a 10 month blockade of no food, medicine or electricity, they are now being attacked, leaving behind their homes and churches.
