Psalm 8:3 When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers, the moon and the stars, which you have set in place
This was our theme this summer and it was interesting to see how each camp, each pastor and each camper approached this verse.
Our God is a big God that created everything seen and unseen. Camp was a great place for all to consider the work of God.
One night in particular there were two telescopes set up at the waterfront. One was focused on Saturn and one was focused on Jupiter – the heavens that were set in place – and as campers looked through the eyepieces we heard: “Wow” (in a long drawn out whisper), “This is amazing”, “That is really Saturn!”, “This is so cool”, “I have never done anything like this before” and stunned silence. God’s work made visible had a tremendous impact.
Throughout the summer we also had goats and a llama visit. It was amazing to see the most rambunctious camper become still as they waited for the goat to eat out of their hand or to see the quietest camper go up and hug the llama. God’s creation touched them in a real way.
One subtheme that seemed to work its way through all the camps was that each camper is a work of God and was hand placed, loved and cared for.
The hope is that each person had a chance to consider, to reflect, to be in creation and realize they are a part of it and their choices influence it as well.
